At Resilience Counseling, we are dedicated to providing compassionate trauma informed counseling services to individuals with mental health issues. What is EMDR?

EMDR is a therapeutic technique that stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a powerful method designed to help individuals process distressing memories, reducing their emotional impact and allowing for healing to occur.

How Does it Work?

Imagine memories as puzzle pieces stored in your mind. Some pieces might be too painful or overwhelming. EMDR helps to reorganize these pieces, making them easier to manage.  Your brain essentially does the healing.

This is achieved through a structured eight-phase approach:

History-taking and Treatment Planning:

Together, we'll explore your history and identify target areas for EMDR.

Preparation:

We'll discuss coping strategies and relaxation techniques to ensure you feel ready for the process.

Assessment:

Specific memories or targets are identified for reprocessing.

Desensitization:

While focusing on these memories, bilateral stimulation (typically through eye movements) helps your brain reprocess and desensitize the emotional charge associated with them.

Installation:

Positive beliefs are reinforced, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-worth.

Body Scan:

We'll check in with your body to ensure that all residual tension is released.

Closure:

Each session concludes with a sense of closure, and we'll discuss any emotions or experiences that arose.

Reevaluation:

 In subsequent sessions, we'll assess progress and address any new material that emerges
